Planning for the John Muir Trail was a whimsical mix of excitement and logistical acrobatics. From plotting our daily milestones to ensuring we had enough trail snacks to rival a convenience store, every detail became a puzzle piece in the grand adventure. While it brought its fair share of challenges, the joy of crafting the journey was an adventure in itself. Embarking on the John Muir Trail turned out to be a journey where laughter echoed through the valleys as much as the crunch of our boots on the trail. The adventure began with a quirky Day 0, flying into FAT (Fresno Yosemite International Airport) where a trail angel whisked us away for a night of good rest and a feast. Our adventure on trial was going to be unfolding soon.
Our Day 1 started with a decision-making dilemma: to hike or not to hike? Thanks to our eager anxiety, we secured a last-minute permit to commence our trail adventure a day earlier. Freshened up and fueled with newfound excitement, we hit the Happy Isles trailhead around 1:30 pm on August 23rd.
